With Valentine's Day so close, many of us are planning dates with our mates or maybe you're out there looking to find that perfect someone to share it with.

For those out there on the dating scene, you have to be extra careful. I have seen lately, many businesses taking the extra step in making sure that you are safe during a date. They now have in place where you can order a specific drink to let the staff know if you feel like the date is not going well. It seems all well and good. But what happens if all is well and you leave, then things turn sour?

This is not to put a negative outlook on Valentine's Day at all. Simply a way to make your relationship more open by helping you communicate better with those you love and have a lasting healthy relationship!

Changing the way we think and do things, is a big key. The datesafeproject.org is an organization inspired to help teach an old habit, to be new again; respect for ourselves, respect for others and how to intervene when you think someone might be in a bad situation.

"Can I Kiss You" engrossed me from the minute I opened its pages. It was different in the aspect that it gave me an opportunity to put myself in the shoes of others with challenges I would normally never think to experience. I really enjoyed how things were broken down and easy to understand. The thought put into making this book readable, is outstanding. At the end of each chapter, it has a place for notes so that one can write down any highlights that stand out to them or points one wants to remember without having to search.

Communication is the number one most important factor when dating, or any type of relationship for that matter. In the book "Can I Kiss You" Michael Domitrz explains to us the different ways that we can communicate positively, the different types of communication, and how we can break the habit of misunderstanding by just verbally communicating how we feel or what we want.

Later in the book, it talks about the different levels of sexual assault. Whether you are dating or have been married for years, it occurs more often than you think. It helps for those to recognize the signs, so if by chance you witness it, you can take the proper action needed to help.

This is an excellent read and an educational aspect into redoing everything that we think is "normal" behavior and start communicating on a positive level.

Sexual assault is no joke, no matter how small you think it may be. If it makes you uncomfortable, don't stay quiet; take action.

  2. I love the concept of asking first on a date. That would stop so many regrets with people if they were asked first.

  11. It feels as though we've lost that sense of respect for ourselves, our body, and those around us. This sounds like a great book that talks about that lost value and how important it is to get that back.

  16. Luckily I'm in a loving, respectful relationship but not so long ago I wasn't and I was on the dating scene. I wish there were more gentlemen out there but it seems like a lot of the time you really have to be careful. Better to be safe than sorry

  18. This sounds like a really good book to give as a gift for those in their mid-late teens. You forgot the third option for valentine's day - us old married couples where the wives will just binge watch netflix alone on the couch like she does every other night. ;)

  22. I always tell others communication is the key to a successful relationship, if there is no communication more likely the relationship will not work. The book has a lot of key points. I feel hooked to the book and you just gave a counter summary of the book. Imagine if I was reading the book self...
